55 days. As you would a fine burgundy wine, savor the outstanding flavor and wonderful color of Red Velvet lettuce. One of the darkest red leaf lettuces you will find, the tops of the leaves are solid red while the backs are green, tinged with maroon for a lovely contrast.

This packet sows ten 6-foot rows.

When 1" tall, thin to 1 every 6"


When to sow outside: 2 to 4 weeks before average last frost, and successive sowings thereafter every 3 weeks until 2 weeks before the first fall frost. USDA zone 8 or warmer: also sow in fall for winter harvest.

When to start inside: 6 to 8 weeks before last frost and in summer when soil temperatures are too warm outside to germinate lettuce seed

Harvesting: Individual leaves can be harvested anytime as desired. The whole plant can be sheared to 2" above ground level when plant is 6" - 8" in diameter; more leaves will be produced.
