Bee Balm Dotted Mint Seed
Monarda - lambada
$2.69

Item #1085

Perennial (USDA zones 4-8). Blooms summer. 3' tall. Full sun or light shade in hot summer climates. We chose this variety of Bee Balm (a native of the eastern United States) because it has a unique and dramatic flower cluster, and because it is relatively tolerant to mildew and drought compared to other varieties. It has the pleasant odor of mint and basil, and attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. Bee Balm requires moist (but not soggy) soil. Mulch plants and remove spent blossoms for a longer bloom period. It makes a nice addition to wildflower or herb gardens and is a pretty cut flower. Monarda was named for Nicholas de Monardes, a Spanish physician who came to the new world in the 16th century. New world colonists used Monarda tea instead of imported tea to protest taxes.

When to plant outside: Spring, 2 weeks before average last frost or late summer/early fall at least 2 months before the first fall frost.

When to start inside: 8-10 weeks before average last spring frost.

Special Germination Instructions: Seed prefers 60-70 degree temperatures to germinate (for starting indoors). Sow shallow - 1/8" to 1/16" deep or barely cover, but be sure to keep moist.
