Annual. Summer to fall. 5' to 8' tall. Full Sun. Tall, magnificent addition to the back of the border with burgundy plumes. Stems and leaves turn from green to reddish burgundy in fall. Looks stunning next to yellow sunflowers. Highly nutritious grain can be harvested and cooked like rice or popped like popcorn. Amaranth grain is high in protein and other nutrients. Leaves can be picked young for salads or steamed like spinach. Sacred plant to the Aztecs who believed that it had supernatural power and gave their warriors strength

When to plant outside: Spring, after average last frost.

When to start inside: 4-6 weeks before average last frost.

Special Germination Instructions: Germination is best when soil temperatures are 65 to 75 degrees. Sow 1/4" deep and keep moist.
