Corn Sweet Argent White Seed

| Item #0148 |
This is the best tasting white sweet corn there is! It has superb, sweet, creamy flavor and is an excellent variety for the home gardener. Argent corn is adaptable to cool soils and has high tolerance to both Stewarts Wilt and Northern Corn Leaf Blight. A heterozygous sugary enhanced (suse) hybrid, it is a cross between and SU sweet corn and an SE sugary enhanced sweet corn that has been bred for its higher amount of sugar and tenderness. The higher sugar content allows it to hold its sweetness longer after harvest. Large decreases in sugar content do not occur until 3-4 days after picking (so you dont have to have that pot ready and boiling before rushing out to pick the ears). This packet plants: three 6-foot rows.
When to plant outside: Recommended. Spring, a week or two after the average last spring frost date and when soil is warm (60-65 degrees). SOIL MUST BE WARM FOR GERMINATION TO OCCUR.
When to start inside: Corn seed does not transplant well. Outdoor sowing is recommended.
Special Germination Instructions: Corn is easy to grow from seed. Because of the higher sugar to starch ratio in super sweet kernels, these seeds are less vigorous than the non-super sweet varieties (Please note that all of Botanical Interests seeds are pre-tested for germination at an independent laboratory before packaging, so you are always getting very high quality seeds.) For best results, provide optimal germination conditions in your garden including planting depth and warm soil Since pollination occurs from wind, seed should be planted in blocks. Sow 6 apart and thin to 1 apart. This SUSE hybrid variety can be grown near other SU or SE types, but should be separated from SH (super sweet) corn by 250 feet to prevent cross-pollination. Staggering plantings with a 10-15 plus day maturity difference will allow closer plantings where cross-pollination is a concern.
