Phaseolus - vulgaris

| Item #0217 |
This classic Italian romano bean is an improved version of the original Roma. A favorite in Italy, these flat and wide snap beans aren't available in most grocery stores. Once you taste their delicious nutty bean flavor, you'll wish you could grow them all year long. The 4"-5" pods are slow to develop fiber and seeds, so they are nice and tender. Beans are easy to pick from the upright 15"-20" bushy plants. Delicious eaten fresh and an excellent variety for freezing or canning.
When to plant outside: RECOMMENDED. Spring, after average last spring frost. If the weather is cold and wet, until it warms up and dries out a bit.
When to start inside: Not recommended.
Special Germination Instructions: Beans need good air circulation, thus the recommended row spacing of 3'-4'. Seeds that do not come up can be immediately replaced.
(If beans are not germinating, soil may still be too cool or they may have dried out. Consider a later planting and/or soak seeds in water overnight before planting.)
Container Tips: Bush beans can be grow in 2 gallon containers. When 1" tall, thin to 4 to 6 inches apart.
