The slim, purple pods of this Italian favorite are a delicacy with sweet and nutty bean flavor that will have you saying, "delizioso"! Trionfo violetto literally means "purple triumph", and you will agree once you've tried it. A gardening friend introduced this variety to us, and we loved its thin, crisp, and flavorful purple pods that reminded us of a gourmet French filet bean. In the garden, the highly ornamental 6'-8' tall vines have abundant lavender flowers that bloom against lush green leaves with purple veins and purple stems. Like other purple beans, the 7"-10" long pods seem to magically turn green when cooked but remain tender and flavorful. A very productive variety, you will be harvesting beans until late summer.
When to plant outside: RECOMMENDED. Spring, after average last spring frost. If the weather is cold and wet, until it warms up and dries out a bit.
When to start inside: Not recommended.
Special Germination Instructions Beans need good air circulation, thus the recommended row spacing of 3'-4'. Seeds that do not come up can be immediately replaced.
(If beans are not germinating, soil may still be too cool or they may have dried out. Consider a later planting and/or soak seeds in water overnight before planting.)
Container Tips: Pole beans can be grow in 2 gallon containers with support. When 1" tall, thin to 4' to 6" apart. Provide a cage, trellis, or pole for support.
