With vivid color, 'Black Magic' makes great dried or cut flowers, while edible petals make a stunning garnish to salads, crudités platters, or dinner plates. Bachelor's button, also called cornflower, will "naturalize"; it self-sows for another crop of flowers the following season, and birds love the seed heads!

Just stunning

5 out of 5 stars Jun 17, 2022
I sowed indoors and the plants did struggle a bit as a result. Next year I will be patient and direct sow in the garden. They are now just starting to bloom and the flowers are stunning. The color is a rich deep purple to "black". When they are just buds they do look black. Absolutely growing again next year. Fantastic germination rate.

So easy!

It was gratifying to watch these seedlings grow. I direct sowed a little late but nearly all the seeds germinated. The first flowers are opening now and the color is stunning. I can't wait to see what returns next year!
