$2.49 25 grams (~100 seeds)

Botanical Name: Pisum sativum

Days to Maturity: 65 days

Family: Fabaceae

Native: Western Asia, Europe, and North Africa

Hardiness: Frost-tolerant annual

Plant Dimensions: 24"–28" tall

Variety Information: 4 ½"–5" long pods that contain 8–11 plump peas. Pods grow in pairs on top of plant for easy harvesting. Short plants do not require staking, although staking may aid in harvest.

Type: Shelling pea

Attributes: Disease Resistant

When to Sow Outside: RECOMMENDED. 4 to 6 weeks before your average last frost date, when soil temperature is at least 40°F, ideally 60°–80°F and again 10 to 12 weeks before your average first frost date. In Mild Climates, sow in fall or winter for winter harvest. Best grown in temperatures less than 85°F.

When to Start Inside: Not recommended.

Days to Emerge: 5–10 days

Seed Depth: 1"

Seed Spacing: 2"

Row Spacing: 18"

Thinning: Not required.

Harvesting: Shelling peas should be harvested when the pods are plump, about 3 weeks after flowering. Peas that are too mature are tough and will cause the plant to stop producing; therefore, harvest regularly when pods are at their peak. Use scissors to harvest or hold vine with one hand and pick the pods with the other; vines are fragile.

This is my third year growing peas and this was my best year yet. These peas are delicious, sweet, and very productive.

Super sweet but barely produced.

We planted hundreds of these seeds but only about 12 plants grew. They were all about a foot tall and only produced 5-7 pods on each plant, with 3-5 peas per pod. Very sad production BUT the peas we did get were amazing - super sweet and juicy. We loved them but they didn't produce enough to try growing again.

Owner Response: Hi Lisa, Thank you for sharing your experience. Peas have very specific germination and production temperature ranges. Also, adding inoculant can really increase your yield if the proper soil bacteria aren't present however, too much nitrogen will reduce pea production in favor of green growth. We do test our seeds regularly using a third-party laboratory to ensure germination rates exceed federal and our own standards. Please don't hesitate to contact us to help troubleshoot growing issues.

Plant Height

These peas really worked out well but they were much taller than the plant height listed. They grew to about 60 inches tall whereas the packet stated 28 inches.

I found Botanical Interests in my local gardening store on accident when I forgot a couple of items in my seed order, from another company, and didn't want to pay for shipping. I am so glad I stumbled on these peas. The plants germinated really easy and have grown like wild. There are so many little white flowers and now the pods are starting to form. I picked one the other day and it was delicious. I'm just so happy these seeds are thriving this year despite the wild weather Iowa has given us this season.
