Reliable and Fun

I sowed these in a large flat and potted them up as they grew. Germination was prolific and the the seedlings hardy (laughed at the damping off going on in other flats). It's been fun to see what colors show up (pale green & green with red interior more than other variations) and watch the babies grow into little mounds. It's been a couple months and they aren't big enough to go into the garden yet, but I anticipate being able to fill in quite an area in the bed soon.

I love coleus and this was my first time growing it from seed. I used pots and basic potting mix. It took a while for the seedlings to grow (cold May), though the plants shot up after true Summer started and I haven't had to pull them up yet (late October now). This will be a plant I grow from seeds every year now and I hope Botanical Interests will offer more varieties.

Loving these coleus from seeds

The germination rate was really good for these seeds and I was liking the surprise of seeing what color will pop up with each seedling. I mainly got the Deep red with green margins and the solid lighter green color schemes growing. I agree the plant did take a while to grow from the first set of leaves to a larger plant big enough to plant out but that's probably just a plant feature, not a seed specific problem. Looking forward to planting again next year and seeing what other colors I will get!

I purchased this seed for 2021. The first year I had great germination and all the colors. They grew into large, lush plants. I am starting the leftover seeds again for 2022. Both years, I put the seed trays in a warm place and had germination within 4 days or so. I haven't found them to be slow. Seeing the little seedlings show their color so early on is a really treat!
