Celery Tall Utah 52/70 Improved Seeds

Celery Tall Utah 52/70 Improved Seeds

Apium graveolens var. dulce

Item #0076

100-120 days. Tall Utah 52/70 Improved is taller and greener than the original "Utah" variety. A good choice for short seasons because it can be harvested at any stage. All celery grows best in climates with long, mild temperature seasons, but can be grown in most places with proper technique (see inside packet). Blanching is not necessary with this variety.

This packet sows twelve 10-foot rows.

Days to Emerge:
15-30 days

Seed Depth:
cover lightly

Seed Spacing:
a group of 3 seeds every 12"

Row Spacing:
18"-24"

Thinning:
When 1" tall, thin to 1 every 12"

When to sow outside: Recommended for mild climates only. Sow 1 to 2 weeks before average last frost.

When to start inside: RECOMMENDED. 10 to12 weeks before average last frost for spring sowing, or 10 to 12 weeks before transplanting outdoors for fall crop. Start in paper or pulp pots to minimize root disturbance when transplanting directly into the ground. Plants may bolt if exposed to prolonged temperatures below 50°F, or extended heat. Optimal soil temperature for germination is 55º–70ºF.

Harvesting: Harvest stalks when they are at least 6" tall. Harvest mature bunch at 8"–10" tall. Cut with a sharp knife at the base.
