62-90 days. This variety of cowpea is a crowder type that produces compact, bushy plants with high yields of densely packed 6-7” pods that are easy to pick and shell. Developed by Mississippi State University in 1965 for resistance to fusarium wilt and root knot nematode, it is also called “Mississippi Silverskin” and “Mississippi Silverhull”. When to sow outside: RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after average last frost and when temperatures are warm. NOTE: In very hot summer areas such as the South and Southwest, sow in March for June harvest, and August for late September harvest.

When to start inside: Not recommended

Harvesting: For fresh, tasty cowpeas, shell seeds out of pod about 62 days after sowing. Seeds will be developed but not hard at this point. For dried beans, wait until pods are dry. At season’s end, plants are great compost material if not diseased.
