Carrot Scarlet Nantes Organic HEIRLOOM Seeds

Daucus carota sativus

Item #3017

65 days. Scarlet Nantes is an old favorite for many reasons: sweet flavor, tender, abundant producer and consistent quality. There is no finer garden treat than a homegrown carrot pulled fresh from the earth!

This packet sows four 10-foot rows.

Days to Emerge:
10 - 25 days

Seed Depth:
1/4"

Seed Spacing:
1"

Row Spacing:
6"

Thinning:
When 1" tall,
thin to 1
every 3"

When to sow outside: RECOMMENDED. 2 to 4 weeks before average last frost. Successive Sowings: Every 3 weeks until 60 days before first fall frost. In very warm climates, carrots are grown primarily in fall, winter, and spring.

When to start inside: Not recommended.

Harvesting: For best flavor and texture, harvest Scarlet Nantes carrots at their optimal size of 6"–7" long. Peak harvest period lasts about 3 weeks. Late summer sown carrots are sweetened after having been kissed by light frost, but please harvest before soil freezes, which would destroy the crop. If you live in a climate that doesn’t fall below 20°F, you can leave carrots in the ground for storage provided they are heavily mulched, and harvest as needed.
