Corn Sweet Luscious (bicolor) Organic Seeds

Corn Sweet Luscious (bicolor) Organic Seeds

Zea mays var rugosa (hybrid)

Item #3019

75 days. Summertime and corn on the cob! If we had to choose just two vegetables that are much better home-grown than store-bought, corn and tomatoes would be our choice. Luscious is a bi-color corn that matures in 75 days — an advantage in a areas with a shorter growing season. Flavorful 8" ears with 16 to 18 rows of very tender kernels hold their sweetness and flavor longer than other varieties.

This packet sows three 8-foot rows.

Days to Emerge:
5-10 days

Seed Depth:
1" - 1½"

Seed Spacing:
A group of 2 seeds every 12"

Row Spacing:
2' - 3'

When 4" tall, thin to 1 every 12"

When to sow outside: RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after average last frost, and when soil temperature is at least 60°F.

When to start inside: Not recommended.

Special sowing instructions: Since pollination occurs by wind, corn should be sown in short, parallel rows or blocks.

Harvesting: Corn is ready about 3 weeks after the silks appear. Harvest when the silks are brown, but not dried, and the husks are dark green; ears should be plump. To test for ripeness, gently pull back the husk and pop a kernel with your fingernail; a milky juice squirting out means corn is ready. If juice is watery, corn is still immature.
