Pumpkin Big Max Organic HEIRLOOM Seeds

Pumpkin Big Max Organic HEIRLOOM Seeds

Cucurbita maxima

Item #3071

120 days. Big Max is the choice of giant pumpkin growers. Unlike some large pumpkins that are just blobs, Big Max has smooth light-orange skin and is perfect for Halloween carving or other holiday decorations. To achieve maximum size, grow one pumpkin per vine, water and fertilize regularly. Excellent for canning (many cans!) or pumpkin pies (many pies!).

This packet sows 5 mounds.

Days to Emerge:
7-14 days

Seed Depth:
1”

Seed Spacing:
2 seeds
per mound

Mound Spacing:
6'-8'

Thinning:
When several leaves, thin to 1 per mound

When to sow outside: RECOMMENDED. 2 to 4 weeks after average last frost and when soil temperature has risen above 60°F.

When to start inside: Not recommended except in very short growing seasons, 2 to 4 weeks before average last frost. Sow in paper or pulp pots that can be planted directly in the ground. Transplant when soil temperature is at least 60°F.

Harvesting: Harvest pumpkins before the first fall frost, and when foliage has begun to dry out. Cut stem with a knife, leaving 3"-4" of stem on the pumpkin. Do not hold the pumpkin by the stem; if stem attachment gets broken, or any part of the pumpkin bruises, the pumpkin will rot. Brush off any dirt or leaves. Cure in a sunny window or porch at 75-80°F for 1-2 weeks before eating or storage. Do not allow harvested fruit to get wet.
