Why settle for green plastic when you can easily and quickly grow real, lush, green grass in no time at all? After the candy and eggs are gone, you can let your cats enjoy the oat grass, or juice the wheatgrass for your own shot of homegrown health juice.
Supplies
You can find all of these items either in your garden or at your local grocery store.
- 1 Easter basket
- 1 shallow tray with drainage (slightly larger than your desired Easter basket)
- 1 packet Cat Grass or Wheatgrass
- Cardboard
- Pair of scissors
- Plastic wrap
Directions
- Use packet directions to grow cat grass or wheatgrass in a broad, shallow, well-drained tray that's a little bigger than the basket you want to fill.
- Trace and cut two pieces of cardboard that fit snugly into the bottom of your basket. Wrap one of the pieces in a couple of layers of plastic wrap to keep it dry.
- Use your cardboard templates as an outline to cut your tray of grass to the appropriate size. Slide the plastic covered piece under the shaped mat of grass for support while moving.
- Line your basket with plastic wrap to keep it dry. Place the plain cardboard piece in the bottom of the container to hold down the plastic wrap.
- Using the plastic-covered cardboard for support, place the grass into the container. Tuck the extra plastic down between the grass/soil and the container to keep it dry.
- Add your colorful eggs and candy!
