Just the porch lights from other houses make 'Lumina' glow! 'Lumina' is wonderful for painting (very smooth skin), carving, and baking; the flavor and texture are excellent! Pumpkins are 8"–10" in diameter and weigh 10–12 pounds each. Very fun for kids to grow.

When to Sow Outside: RECOMMENDED. 2 to 4 weeks after your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is 70°–90°F.

When to Start Inside: Not recommended except in very short growing seasons, 2 to 4 weeks before your average last frost date. Sow in biodegradable pots that can be planted directly in the ground. Transplant after your average last frost date, when weather is warm and settled.

Harvesting: Harvest pumpkins before the first fall frost, and when foliage has begun to dry out. Cut stem with a knife, leaving 3"–4" of stem on the pumpkin. Do not hold the pumpkin by the stem; if stem attachment gets broken, or any part of the pumpkin bruises, the pumpkin may rot. Brush off any dirt or leaves. Ideally, cure at 80°-85°F and 80–85% humidity or a warm, sunny spot with good air circulation for 1 to 2 weeks before eating or storage. Do not allow harvested fruit to get wet.

Fun for kids

I grew these with my son for Halloween. Smooth skin and about the size of a soccer ball. We painted them and my son loved it. We used water based paint and it rained and washed all the paint off. My son was sad but then we repainted them with some model car paint and that worked great and he was happy. We are growing again this year

Sadly, they just won't grow.

We were very excited to grow this white variety. We have 2 pumpkin patches and we planted them at the same time as several Kakai, Long Island Cheese, and Sugar Pie pumpkins. Since there are only 6 seeds, I planted 2 in a hole the first time. Every other pumpkin we direct sowed popped up and started growing well. These never did. So I planted 2 more seeds in the same spot and the last 2 in the other patch. All 4 of those came up but only grew to 4 inches tall and stopped. The one set is green and healthy but the other is yellow and weak. It's been over a month with no growth, while every other variety we planted is several feet long and some have softball size pumpkins on them already. Not sure what is going on but I probably won't try these again. Very disappointed.

They were the first of 5 variety of pumpkins to pop up and to fruit! My kids loved watching them grow and have big plans for them this fall. We will definitely grow again!
