Common Milkweed/Butterfly Flower Seeds

Asclepias syriaca

Observe the monarch butterfly lifecycle right in your garden! This heirloom species provides food and habitat for monarch butterflies and is an essential host plant for their caterpillars. In summer, pink to purplish or white flowers are followed by decorative seedpods that are beautiful in dried arrangements. Robust, shrub-like perennial spreads by underground rhizomes. Native throughout much of the eastern and central United States. Sap is toxic; avoid eye/skin contact and do not ingest.

These are to plant now so they can be cold stratified and grow in spring and i feel as though the information provided on the packets is sufficient to plant successfully.

Lots of luck with milkweed. Started the seeds in early January in milk jugs with my winter sowing plants. Had great success with high germination. Planted several varieties. Harvesting seeds from the pods now. Lovely and necessary for the monarchs. Several caterpillars have been on the plants but have disappeared. Don't know if they have gone to rest in their chrysalis or if they were eaten by some other insect.
