Mantanghong Watermelon Radish Seeds

Raphanus sativus (hybrid)

It is no wonder that 'Mantanghong' is the most popular of the Chinese "beauty heart" radishes. This summer/fall-sown radish produces large, 3" round, mild radishes that can weigh up to 1 pound each! Slice the greenish white exterior to reveal a vivid, fuchsia interior. Whether you enjoy radishes raw, cooked, or pickled, these beauties are sure to be a star. Winter radishes are best sown in the late summer or fall, as short days trigger root growth.

These "watermelon" radishes were very easy to grow. I planted them in my Fall/Winter garden in Atlanta (7b). I cut them both ways so you can see different views of this radish. They are very pretty when you grate them into salads. I should have thinned them more so mine did not get super big. Rookie mistake which I will correct when I plant these for spring/summer.

Beautiful radishes that grow well in Wisconsin’s fall weather. My son’s girlfriend also had success in Denver.

This Watermelon Radish is a beautiful and tasty addition to any salad or dish. Each time I serve these I get tons of questions and compliments. Also I had almost 100% germination for the seeds I planted. Nice!
