Growing Info

Harvesting: Harvest frequently to increase yield; squash seem to get monstrous overnight. While edible at almost any size, seeds are less developed in young fruit, therefore more tender. Using a knife or clippers, cut squash off including some of the stem. By including stem, the fruit is sealed and less likely to mold or dry out. Harvesting Blossoms: Look for male, non-fruit producing flowers that have long stems and harvest just before use (female flowers have a swollen mini-squash at the base of the flower and are on shorter stems).

My Neighbors Will Be Sad...Because I'M NOT SHARING!!!

Toppled! We have loved the Black Beauty zucchini for the last 5 years. They're consistent, prolific (TBH, maybe a little too prolific unless you have zucchini bread-baking fiends for neighbors), and easy to grow. BUT this year we tried Round Zucchinis. Ok, yes, it still tastes like zucchini. BUT I won't be going back to Black Beauty. Round zucchini is now my summer star. Prolific? Check. Flavor? Less "watery"- tasting (more zucchini-y) than Black Beauty. Flesh? Perfectly firm. Looks? A delightfully variegated white-and-green skin, with almost-variegated leaves (so pretty!). I enjoyed it so much my neighbors were disappointed because I only had Black Beauties to share. Next year I may have to start some additional Round Zucchini plants just to keep the peace (trust me- you want to be on the good side of the bake-happy neighbors). So yeah. If you're in the right zone, you should grow Round Zucchini. Your mouth will be happy, your neighbors will be thrilled.

    Hey Mac,

What an absolutely delightful review! You've completely sold us on the fact that Round Zucchini is truly something special - and honestly, we're cracking up at your neighbors' disappointment over only getting Black Beauties to share!

We love that you took the time to do a real side-by-side comparison after five years with Black Beauty. That "less watery, more zucchini-y" flavor difference you noticed is exactly what makes Round Zucchini such a standout variety! And those gorgeous variegated skins with the almost-variegated leaves - you've really captured what makes these plants so visually appealing in the garden.

Your plan to grow extra Round Zucchini plants just to keep the peace with your bake-happy neighbors is absolutely brilliant! There's nothing like keeping those zucchini bread connections strong in the neighborhood. Though we have a feeling once you start sharing these beauties, you might have even more requests on your hands!

Thank you so much for such a fun and detailed review. Your enthusiasm for Round Zucchini is contagious, and other gardeners are going to love hearing about that superior flavor and texture you discovered!

    Keep on growing 🌻️

    BARELY ANY SQUASH

Full healthy plant HOWEVER 98% MALE flowers.

My veg patch is well interspersed with flowers for pollination but when the ratio of flowers is that low.

Stared gardening this year and these seeds were among the other squash so I decided to give these a try. My first one came up and so enjoyed the taste. These will be a main staple in my garden from here on out

    These things are so prolific!

I keep em watered, prune the oldest leaves to prevent disease, tie them to stakes, and they just keep blooming and putting on fruit. I planted six, one was damaged by animals, but the others keep going.

When I pick them softball-sized, they're soft and easy to cook in a skillet. Slightly larger, and I slice them into discs and grill them with herbs to put them on my burgers. Larger than that, and I cut em in half vertically, scoop out the seeds, and fill them with Italian sausage, quinoa, herbs, tomato, and cheese. Bake. Heaven.
