Gold Rush Bush Bean Seeds

Phaseolus vulgaris

Gold Rush's' clusters of yellow pods really pop against the green foliage of the plant so they are easy to harvest. This golden-yellow bean holds its quality well, both on the plant and post-harvest. A good container variety. Disease resistance.

Coverage & Planting Details

Coverage This packet sows up to 20 feet.
Row Spacing 24"
Seed Depth 1"
Seed Spacing 1 seed every 4"
Thinning Not required
Germination 6–12 days
Start Indoors Not recommended.
Direct Sow RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is at least 65°F, ideally 70°–85°F. Successive Sowings: Every 7 to 14 days up to 80 days before your average first fall frost date. NOTE: In very hot summer areas, skip sowing as high heat approaches; temperatures consistently above 90°F will prevent beans from forming.
Growing & Harvesting Snap beans are ready to pick when the pod "snaps" or breaks in half cleanly. This is when the seeds have just begun to form and the pods are several inches long (depending on the variety). Hold the stem with one hand, and the pod with the other hand to avoid pulling off branches, which will continue to produce. At season's end, plants are great compost material if they are disease-free.

    Grew Fantastic

Every seed germinated and I had a lot of beans this summer. I planted a second crop for late fall, but sadly, those rascally deer ate all the leaves and tops off the bean plants that were close to flowering soon. They ate all the pea plants all the way down to the dirt and got a lot of my carrot tops too. Sad morning that was coming out to the garden.... I have mesh to cover everything up now and they haven't bothered anything else - except my Brussels Sprouts. Yupp, they got those a few nights later. They were the only thing I could not cover up. I was really looking forward to those lovely beans this fall... I did salvage the carrots and they were excellent. There are more carrots growing too and they did not get all the other carrots. I stay optimistic as much as I can :-)

    These beans aren't doing well

Only about 50% of these beans sprouted. In spite of frequent watering during a drought, they arent thriving. We have harvested about a dozen beans.

Other beans we planted at the same time are doing quite well.

Most prolific & tasty yellow bean

Most years I struggle getting beans to germinate, but these beans are the exception. My family has repeatedly complemented the flavor of Gold Rush and next year I will only plant this variety. The germination was very good and the beans continue to grow longer than expected.
