Double Blend Sweet William Seeds

Dianthus barbatus

Charming large clusters of edible, double flowers in a myriad of colors, and one of the longest lasting cut flowers available! In the garden, butterflies and bees love the sweet and spicy scented flowers. In the kitchen, the mild-clove-flavored petals make a colorful garnish to salads, desserts, and cold drinks. (The flower's central disk, while edible, can be bitter.) As a biennial, Sweet William forms a lovely plant the first year, then flowers the second. In mild climates, plants may return the following year. However, for the best flower production, we recommend reseeding every year so you'll be sure to always have flowering plants.

    Smells so good!

I had a hard time getting this to bloom over the years so I put it in a pot and set it under a lilac tree. It only gets morning sun. Is doing great!

    BEST Sweet William!

I absolutely LOVE this variety of Sweet William! I grow them every year to add to my garden, as they are biennial. They bloom in their second year, in the spring; and they are the most beautiful, mophead flowers! Almost like a hydrangea. They are show stoppers. I have a video all about this specific variety of Sweet William on YouTube, just look up Grow Roots.

    Vigorous growers

I started a flat in late July for fall planting in zone 7. They’re vigorous, healthy and had great germination. I planted them in beds 2 weeks ago and they continue to take off. I can’t wait to see them bloom next spring.

    Hey Amy D.,

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!

It's so exciting that your Double Blend Sweet Williams are already taking off so well just two weeks after transplanting - that's exactly the kind of strong establishment you want to see going into their first winter. These hardy little plants are going to have plenty of time to develop robust root systems before the cold sets in. We hope you'll let us know how it goes!

Thank you so much for sharing your growing experience and for giving us a peek into your successful fall planting strategy. Other zone 7 gardeners will find your timing and approach so helpful!
