Growing Info

Harvesting: When seedlings emerge, the first pair of leaves to show are the cotyledons, which can look very different from the leaves that follow, called "true" leaves. Baby greens are ready to harvest when they have true leaves, at 2"–4". Slow growers, or cool growing temperatures may require more time. Harvest by cutting just above the soil line. For more than one harvest (up to 3 before flavor declines) leave about 1/2" of leafy growth on the small plants so they can regenerate.

    Hey Carie,

That's amazing! Less than 3 days for germination is absolutely incredible! Your setup with the seed starter kits and grow light sounds like the perfect environment for those little lettuce seeds to get off to such a fantastic start.

We're just as excited as you are to see how they develop! These Gourmet Baby Greens are going to give you such beautiful, tender leaves. There's nothing quite like that first harvest of fresh mesclun greens - they're going to taste so much better than anything you can buy at the store!

Thanks for sharing your excitement with us! It's always wonderful to hear from gardeners who are having such great success right from the start.

    Keep on growing 🌻️

    Yummy lettuce

These seeds produce really well. Be sure to harvest before it gets too hot and they bolt. I've planted them over a period of two+ months to stretch out the harvest. Really tasty and easy to grow.

    Hey Wendy,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with our Gourmet Baby Greens Mesclun Lettuce Seeds! We absolutely love hearing from gardeners who really know how to maximize their harvest - your succession planting strategy over two months is brilliant! That's exactly the kind of smart gardening that keeps fresh salads on the table all season long.

You're so right about timing the harvest before the heat hits and they bolt. That's so frustrating when that happens. We're glad you harvested before that happened.

    Keep on growing 🌻️

What did you do to make this thing so gritty!? I got a pack of this as a welcome gift and had no idea what to do with it so I decided to throw this into my hydroponic system... in less than 2-3wks, I had a full harvest... just let my wife harvest it when she wants... 3mon later I'm like... OK... so how's it... oh dang! the water line is down to less than half and the nutrition is legit less than 20% of what it should be (only 94ppm!?!!??)... and yet, that photo is what you see! I literally planted, walked away and literally forgot about it because the wife never complained... I mean the lifespan shouldn't be this long either... so let's see if I can send it off to glory... it's at 150ppm... I might bump it more later... this is insanity!
