Salpiglossis, also called painted tongue, has velvety flowers with metallic coloration and veination that has to be seen to be believed! A gardener in the early 1900s described them as having "bewildering combinations". Flowers beckon admirers to take a closer look, and are irresistible to butterflies. Performs best in cool weather. Excellent cut flowers.

Poor germination rate, even when I followed instructions. None of the seedlings survived to maturity.

I ordered seed for what we normally call Painted Tongue for the first time from Botanical Interests and am very pleased with the results. The seeds had a very high rate of germination and grew strong and healthy, now beginning to bloom with the beautiful flowers I remember so well. I'm so happy to see them again and enjoy growing them.

These flowers are beautiful! The color patterns remind me of sparkling stained glass windows. I would give them 5 stars except they are a bit tricky to grow and slugs and snails LOVE the young plants.

My salpiglossis started producing a variety of colors later in the season. Beautiful!

I found out about these beautiful flowers from a winter sow group. I've been growing them every year since. They're wonderful to grow in pots mixed with other plants. I've only grown them via the winter sow method and have had excellent results. Zone 5B
