I sowed these Violet Queen Salvia seeds indoors on 2/2/25 and it's 2/5/25 and most the the cells have emergence. That's 2.5 days! Crazy quick for salvia. We'll see how it goes as the season progresses. Hoping for decent blooms on first year plants.

Germination was 100% and I almost couldn’t kill them when I planted the seedlings in my greenhouse. Beautiful flowers! Saving seeds to try and grow next year.

Question, is Violet Queen Salvia edible or toxic to dogs? I try to keep dog friendly plants in my garden.

I have had good success with Botanical Interest seeds in general, and especially go for the organic food plant seeds. The salvia seeds from this year did not do well. The first round was a failure...1 plant germinated, out of 72 seeds. I tried again and got about 2/3's germination. The plants were slow to develop, but looked healthy...but have had very few flowers.

I am using sprouting trays, appropriate soil, light and heat pads until germination. Once germinated, I have used quality plant foods designed for flowering plants.

Maybe it's just a bad year for salvia? They did better last year.

We live in the mountains and especially like to have them for the bees and hummingbirds.

I had great germination rate and they are just budding flowers now after sowing in Spring in zone 9b. Healthy, drought tolerant plants
