A real conversation piece in the garden and in floral arrangements. Few people will guess what type of plant it is, but everyone loves the cute, little pumpkin-shaped fruits of this 1800s ornamental eggplant. Often added to fresh or dried florist arrangements. Also called 'Red China' or 'Scarlet Chinese' eggplant, the bitter fruits are used in Asian cooking.

    Great germination and healthy plants

It was really fun growing these. Almost every seed germinated and I got some lovely long branches full of fruit that I plant to dry for decorations. I do feel like the seed packet should come with a warning about how these sneaky little plants are covered in wicker thorns, even on the leaves! Imagine my surprise when I backed into the plant one day lol.

Have not planted this yet.......it is winter here in NE Iowa. Plan to start the seeds indoors about early April with the rest of my seeds I start under grow lights.
