Moskvich' translates to "inhabitant of Moscow", paying homage to the area where it was bred in the early 1970s (more information inside packet). After a winter without homegrown tomatoes, it will be the first one you will harvest, as it withstands cool weather. At the end of the hot summer when temperatures cool off, it is the last to slow down in production of full-size, garden-fresh fruit.

    Best sandwich tomato!

My crop had a few setbacks due to other factors... But once that was under control, the plants bounced back, and the few ripened fruits I was able to pick were surprisingly delicious. The quality was right up there with any other heirloom variety, and the tangerine-sized fruits were perfect for a single sandwich—my go-to summer snack. Glad I tried this one, and looking forward to growing again next summer.

    Hey Brigitte,

That's fantastic to hear about your Moskvich Pole tomatoes!

We're so glad the plants bounced back for you after those early setbacks! That resilience is one of the things we love about heirloom varieties like this one - they really can surprise you with their ability to recover and still produce those deliciously flavorful fruits.

It sounds like you've found yourself a new favorite for next season! Those tangerine-sized beauties are going to taste even better knowing you've got the growing experience under your belt now.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us - it's always wonderful to hear from gardeners who appreciate the unique qualities of these special heirloom varieties!

    Keep on growing 🌻️

starts slow then grows fast and tall; not many tomatoes though

Not sure I will grow this again. I had 3 larger ripe tomatoes 2 weeks ago. Now (early September in New England) there are approx 8 green tomatoes (medium size) and only 1 starting to ripen. I'll leave them on the plant and hope that they start to ripen in the next 2 weeks (after that the plants won't get enough sun). I started all my tomato varieties at the same time but, if the Moskvich is hardier than other varieties, perhaps I should have put the plant out earlier.

I have been growing this tomato for 3 years running now and it will have a place in my garden every year even though the seeds can sometime be hard to find. Don't worry too much about their size. They are not a huge plant and are slower growing than many other varieties BUT what stress they cause you early in the season they will repay many times over in amazing flavor over a long season! They aren't huge fruits but I'd rather not have a half a huge tomato left over after making a sandwich and this is my sandwich tomato! Blts like nothing else! Couldn't do without them
