Harvesting: Tomatoes may also be picked at the "first blush" stage, when 50% of the tomatoes' color has begun to change, and ripened at room temperature without decreasing flavor or nutrition. For "Beefy Purple", "blushing" will occur in between the green stripes. Picking often and early increases yield, and decreases the risk of cracking and pest damage. Ripe fruit left on the vine during rain or watering is more susceptible to splitting. About 1 month before the average first fall frost, clip all blossoms and undersized fruit off the plant, signaling to the plant to ripen what's left. Pick any unripe fruit before frost, and store them indoors in a single layer away from direct sunlight to ripen.

Special Care: Do not mulch when weather is still cool; the roots of young plants need to be in soil that is warmed by the sun. When the weather warms up and plants are established, mulch to a depth of 2" or 3" with a material such as straw, leaves, or compost, to conserve moisture, reduce weed growth, and keep the roots warm.

    Beautiful, flavorful bush tomato.

This tomato is a great addition to the garden. I had several 14-16 oz tomatoes. They are very meaty and an excellent slicer. Rich, deep tomato flavor. The only problem is they don't do hot nights or 100 degree days over an extended period. They do bounce back though when it cools back down. I am planning on growing several more plants next year.

    Hey Jean,

Thank you so much for this fantastic 5-star review! "Beautiful, flavorful bush tomato" with those impressive 14-16 oz fruits is exactly what we love to hear about Beefy Purple Bush Tomato Seeds - and wow, what incredible size and productivity you achieved!

We absolutely love that you got such meaty, excellent slicing tomatoes with that rich, deep tomato flavor that makes Beefy Purple such a garden standout! There's something so satisfying about growing tomatoes that deliver both the size and that full-bodied taste that makes every sandwich and salad absolutely incredible. Those hefty fruits really show what amazing potential these bush plants have when they're happy and thriving.

Your honest insight about the hot weather sensitivity is so valuable for other gardeners! It's actually pretty common for many tomato varieties to slow down during those brutal heat waves and scorching nights, and we really appreciate you noting how they bounce back once temperatures moderate. That kind of real-world growing experience helps fellow gardeners set proper expectations and plan their growing seasons.

The fact that you're already planning to grow several more plants next year tells us everything about how impressed you were with the overall performance and flavor of these beautiful purple beauties! Your success will be so inspiring for other gardeners who want to discover just how rewarding and delicious Beefy Purple Bush Tomatoes can be!

    Beautiful and delicious

This tomato was my 2025 sleeper hit. I bought the seeds on a whim and was rewarded with months of delicious fruit. The squirrels liked them too so I had to pick them when they started to blush. While it's nice to have a stunning slicer to add to sandwiches and salads, it's better to have one that's also tasty.

Such a Rich Flavor (but the rodents ate all the large ones!)

Beefy purple tomato, besides having a fun name, has a deep, rich flavor to it. Mine grew well in large containers. Unfortunately, the rodents sneaked into the garden and ate all the large tomatoes as they ripened, leaving me with only a few very small tomatoes they overlooked (see photo). But they tasted wonderful! I'll happily grow them again next year, but with a guard fence around the plant so I get more of these tasty tomatoes for myself.

    Hey Shirley R.,

Thank you so much for this fantastic 5-star review! We absolutely love that you discovered the deep, rich flavor of Beefy Purple Bush Tomatoes - and yes, that fun name definitely makes them memorable in the garden!

It sounds like you created the perfect growing setup with your large containers, and those tomatoes were clearly thriving. We have to laugh (and sympathize!) about those sneaky rodents discovering just how delicious your Beefy Purples were - apparently they have excellent taste in tomatoes! At least you know you were growing something truly special when even the local wildlife couldn't resist them.

Your guard fence strategy for next season is brilliant, and we love that you're already planning to grow them again. Those rodents won't know what hit them when you've got your defenses up and can enjoy the full harvest of those wonderfully rich, flavorful tomatoes all to yourself!

Your experience will be so helpful for other gardeners who want to grow these amazing container-friendly tomatoes and maybe need a heads-up about protecting their precious harvest from four-legged garden visitors!

    Low yield but so delicious

This is my first time growing them so it could be user error. But I soaked the seeds in a wet napkin, got potted them up twice and then into their final container only to get about 8 tomatoes each. They are medium sized packed full of flavors, and really too beautiful for words. But I'm just sad about the yield size.

I'm going to try again next season, because my word did these every taste amazing.

    Hey Atiya,

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Beefy Purple Bush Tomato Seeds! It sounds like you did everything right with your seed starting - soaking, potting up, and transplanting is exactly the process we'd recommend.

Bush tomatoes like these are bred to be more compact, which often means they naturally produce fewer fruits than their indeterminate cousins, but as you discovered, what they lack in quantity they absolutely make up for in quality! The fact that you got medium-sized, incredibly flavorful tomatoes shows your plants were healthy and doing exactly what they're supposed to do.

Yield can also vary based on growing conditions - things like container size, sunlight hours, and even the specific growing season can all play a role. Since you're planning to try again next season (and we totally understand why after tasting those amazing tomatoes!), you might experiment with a slightly larger container or different feeding schedule to see if that boosts your harvest.

We're so glad you experienced that incredible flavor that makes these purple beauties so special. Thanks for giving them another chance next year!
