Burgundy Broccoli Seeds

Burgundy Broccoli Seeds

Brassica oleracea var. italica (hybrid)

Rated 4.2 out of 5 stars

Sprouting broccolis, like 'Burgundy', create one moderate to small main head, but the real show starts as it begins to produce generous side shoots. Purple broccolis are known for being quite tender, flavorful, and full of antioxidants, but in most cases also a bit fickle, needing cool temperatures–not 'Burgundy'; it's tolerant of a wider range of temperatures, which means a longer harvest period. Some gardeners pinch the first main floret off as soon as it is visible to encourage more abundant side shoots. Resistant to Fusarium yellows.

    Burgundy Broccoli had 100% sprout!

I am in Zone 9b, Houston, and direct sewed Burgundy Broccoli on Christmas Eve last year. It had 100% sprout in 4 days! We were very warm at the time with 75F daytime and 60F night temps. Now at 9 weeks later I am soon to pick the top floret off of a couple plants and I see many side shoots developing. The heat and wind did get to quite a few plants. They died. I will plant earlier next year so that I am not trying to grow broccoli in the 80F's with full sun and high wind.

    Hey Patti,

Wow, 100% germination in just 4 days - that's absolutely incredible! We're thrilled to hear our Burgundy Broccoli Seeds performed so well for you in Houston! Those Christmas Eve planting conditions with 75F days and 60F nights sound perfect for broccoli germination. It's exciting that you're already seeing those main florets developing and side shoots forming at 9 weeks - you're going to have some beautiful burgundy harvests! You're absolutely right about the timing - those Texas heat waves and winds can definitely be challenging for cool-season crops like broccoli. Planting earlier next season will definitely help you avoid those tough 80F+ conditions. Thank you for choosing us and for sharing this fantastic success story and your growing insights with us. Keep on growing 🌻️

    Super tasty with great production!

I thought the price was originally a bit high at 50 cents per seed, but I had 100% germination. I'm growing in a combination of in-ground and containers. I just got my first harvest and this broccoli is tasty! It doesn't hold color after cooking, but most purple veggies don't. I'm excited to find out the total yield after harvesting the side shoots.

    Hey Carlin,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with our Burgundy Broccoli Seeds! We're absolutely thrilled to hear that you got 100% germination - that's incredible! You're absolutely right that the price per seed can seem steep initially, but when you get that kind of perfect germination rate, it really shows the quality is worth it.

We love that you're growing both in-ground and in containers and that you're already enjoying that first delicious harvest! You're spot on about the color not holding after cooking - that's totally normal with purple varieties, but the flavor is what really makes them special. We're so excited for you to see what kind of yield you get from those side shoots too!

Thank you for choosing us and for sharing your growing success with us. Keep on growing 🌻️

    Strong Growth and Great Results

I had excellent results. Germination was strong and consistent, plants were vigorous, and they handled my coastal Southern California conditions better than expected. The purple color held nicely, and the heads were well-formed with good side shoot production. Flavor was mild and sweet, especially after cool nights. This variety was productive, reliable, and absolutely worth growing again.
