Coverage & Planting Details

Coverage This packet sows up to 23 feet of trellised cucumbers.
Row Spacing 36"
Seed Depth ½"
Seed Spacing A group of 2 seeds every 12"
Thinning When 3 leaves, thin to 1 plant every 12"
Germination 5–10 days
Start Indoors 2 to 4 weeks before your average last frost date. Cucumbers are sensitive to root disturbance; sow in biodegradable pots.
Direct Sow RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is at least 60°F, ideally 70°–90°F.
Growing & Harvesting Pick, and pick some more! Overly mature cucumbers on the vine will slow production of new cucumbers. Cut the stem rather than pulling at the fruit, as stems are fragile. To increase the quality and storage time, once picked, immediately immerse in cold water to disperse "field heat".

Easy to germinate. Very prone to rot

Rotted early even with soilless media. Zero “keepers out of first sowing.

    Hey Marilyn,

We're so sorry to hear about the rot issues you experienced with your Spacemaster 80 Cucumber Seeds! That's definitely frustrating, especially when the germination went so well initially. Cucumber seedlings can be tricky with moisture levels - they love humidity for germination but can be sensitive to too much moisture around the stems once they're up. Even with soilless media, sometimes air circulation and watering technique can make all the difference. We really appreciate you sharing your experience as it helps other gardeners know what to watch for. We hope your next sowing gives you much better results! Keep on growing 🌻️

    Bitter in hot climate

This is the only seed packet I did not like from BI. If you are living in a hot area where in summer time it’s always above 90 degrees, this is not a cucumber for you. It was really bitter even though I water the plants twice a day. I do recommend the tasty green cucumber. That one is a heat resistant variety.

    Hey Yvonne,

Thank you so much for sharing your honest experience with the Spacemaster 80! Your feedback about growing conditions in extreme heat is incredibly valuable for other gardeners who might be dealing with similar high-temperature challenges.

We really appreciate you taking the time to recommend the Tasty Green variety as a better heat-resistant option - that kind of variety comparison from an experienced gardener is going to be so helpful for other customers in hot climates who are trying to decide which cucumber seeds will work best for their growing conditions.

Your real-world growing experience in those 90+ degree conditions gives other gardeners valuable insight into variety selection based on their local climate!

    Great Surprise

I had these seeds for 2 years before I planted them. I don’t typically like slicer cukes but do like snacking and pickling types. Texas 8a, finally decided to give these a try heading into the fall season. I prepared a trellis for them because for some reason I thought they would have a huge vine. I didn’t realize they were compact which to my surprise is absolutely perfect for my little garden. They are blooming profusely and the bumblebees are loving them. I am picking them young and are so crunchy. I didn’t think I would even like them before I planted and they have been my favorites out of 5 varieties this year!
