Neon 1½" flowers make a pretty carpet of color with dense, spreading, succulent foliage. Native to South Africa, annual iceplant thrives in hot, dry environments and puts on a show when the show shines, closing at night and during cloud cover. Sow along borders, between pavers, as a groundcover, in rock gardens, or containers. Attracts bees and other pollinators. Fun to scatter here and there like a wildflower seed for dashes of color throughout the garden!

These are lovely--an assortment of colors ranging from pale and vibrant pink to vibrant yellow, many with paler centers in a contrasting color. The flowers are several inches across. Their stems and leaves shimmer in the sunlight and they are definitely a succulent-type foliage. They do not open until late morning, regardless of ambient sunlight, and they close at night. The seeds are incredibly tiny. The germination rate was excellent, but you have to be very careful when watering the seeds and tiny seedlings or you can wash them away. I sowed them in two large pots outside in early spring and they have been blooming continually for over a month now. The individual blooms do not last long, so deadhead to keep fresh. I expect they will last all summer. I am definitely planting more next year.

I started some of these from seed indoors and transplanted out after the last frost, and I've enjoyed watching them grow. The foliage looks like it's sparkling with dew, and their blooms are just now popping. They're so pretty! I love them and already can't wait to plant a whole bunch more next year.
