Vanilla Ice Sunflower Seeds

Helianthus debilis

'Vanilla Ice' brings a creamy, light yellow color to the garden and your tabletop arrangement. Sweet 3"–5" flowers bloom on multi-branched, 5' tall plants that are lovely in a moonlit garden. Sunflowers are practically care-free, very easy to grow, and provide months of color. Sunflowers are edible, with a bittersweet flavor. The petals add a pretty pop of color ion salads and desserts. The young, sunflower buds are edible, with a flavor similar to artichoke hearts. They can be grilled, marinated, or sauteed for an unusual appetizer or side dish. Drought tolerant once established, and pollinators love them!

    Pretty color

These reseed but after a few years they are no longer true to the originals. Still pretty but bigger and a darker yellow. The vanilla color is pretty and the large brown center is a beautiful contrast. I add these to cut flower arrangements. Nice in a bed as well but plant in the back and give them plenty of room.

We're so glad to hear you're loving the beautiful vanilla color and that gorgeous brown center contrast on your Vanilla Ice Sunflower Seeds! It sounds like they're perfect for your cut flower arrangements and garden beds. You're absolutely right about giving them plenty of space and planting them in the back - these beauties really do need room to show off! Thanks for the great growing tips about the reseeding too. Beautiful variety

I loved these sunflowers such a beautiful addition to my garden. I have been trying to collect seeds from them but haven’t found any. Are these not able to produce seeds? I’m still hopeful to get some as I love them and can’t afford to purchase every year.

    Hey Dennielle,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the Vanilla Ice Sunflowers! We're thrilled to hear that they made such a beautiful addition to your garden - these really are stunning flowers, aren't they? Your question about seed production is a great one! Vanilla Ice sunflowers absolutely can produce seeds, but sometimes the timing and conditions need to be just right. The seeds typically develop after the flower heads have finished blooming and start to dry out naturally on the plant. The back of the flower head will turn from green to yellow or brown, and that's when the seeds are usually ready. It can take several weeks after the petals fade, so don't give up hope yet! We totally understand wanting to save seeds for next year - there's something so satisfying about growing your own seed stock. We're keeping our fingers crossed that you'll find some lovely seeds developing on those beautiful blooms! Keep on growing 🌻️

    Hey Rhonda W.,

We're so happy that your Vanilla Ice Sunflowers turned out so beautifully! We love seeing your beautiful photo! Thank you so much for sharing it!

We love that soft, creamy pale yellow color that's completely different from the typical bright golden sunflowers most people are used to. It's such a refreshing and stunning twist on the classic sunflower look!

Your experience with these gorgeous blooms will be so encouraging for other gardeners who might be looking for something a little different from the traditional sunflower varieties! Vanilla Ice really delivers on both uniqueness and beauty, and it sounds like yours are performing exactly as they should.

Thank you so much for sharing such a wonderful review about these special sunflowers!

    Keep on growing 🌻️

    Love these. Sprouted right away.

I am not sure why there are so many different shades but I am pretty sure these all were the Vanilla Ice seeds after I looked through my empty flower packets.

    Hey Laurie,

Vanilla Ice sunflowers naturally show a range of soft, pale colors rather than one uniform shade. The blooms can vary from creamy white to buttery yellow, sometimes with subtle differences even on the same plant. This variation is completely normal for the variety—it’s part of what makes them so unique and charming in the garden. Environmental factors, like sunlight, soil conditions, and temperature, can also influence how deep or light the yellow appears. So your seeds are right on track—they’re just showing the natural diversity of the Vanilla Ice sunflower! We hope you are enjoying them. Keep on growing 🌻️
