Also called napa cabbage, 'One Kilo Slow Bolt' has a delicate flavor, a soft texture in between that of lettuce and regular cabbage, and tight heads have a creamy yellow interior. Grows with ease in fall, and can be sown in spring if care is taken to protect young plants from temperatures of 50°F or below, which may cause plants to bolt. Grows best at 60°-65°F.

Harvesting: Harvest heads when they are well developed, firm, and solid when squeezed. Cut off heads at base with a sharp knife. Cabbages left in the ground beyond maturity are more subject to disease and splitting. Harvest in the morning if possible. If harvested in the heat, dunk in ice water to reduce "field heat" and increase storage time. Allow to drain before storing.

Crisp, Vigorous, and Perfect for Kimchi!

I grew One Kilo Slow Bolt Chinese Cabbage this season, and the results were outstanding. The heads formed beautifully—large, firm, and full of vibrant, crinkled leaves. The slow-bolt trait really helped in my warm coastal climate, giving me plenty of time to harvest without worrying about early flowering.

The flavor is mild and sweet, and the crunch is exactly what you want for making traditional kimchi. I used my entire harvest for a big kimchi batch, and the leaves salted down perfectly while still holding their texture.

Highly recommend this variety for anyone looking to grow Napa cabbage at home—it’s rewarding, resilient, and absolutely delicious!

    Hey Daniel,

What a fantastic review! We're absolutely thrilled to hear that your One Kilo Slow Bolt Napa Cabbage delivered such outstanding results - those large, firm heads with vibrant, crinkled leaves sound absolutely perfect!

Your experience in a warm coastal climate really highlights what makes the slow-bolt trait so special! There's nothing more frustrating than watching your cabbage go to seed just when the heads are starting to form nicely. The fact that you had plenty of time to harvest without worrying about early flowering shows this variety is doing exactly what it's bred to do - giving you that extended growing window even when temperatures start climbing.

We love that you called out the mild, sweet flavor and perfect crunch! One Kilo Slow Bolt is such a fantastic choice for kimchi-making because it gives you exactly those qualities - that crisp texture that holds up beautifully through the salting process while still maintaining that perfect bite. There's something so satisfying about growing your own Napa cabbage specifically for traditional fermentation projects!

Your comment about the leaves salting down perfectly while holding their texture is music to our ears! That's exactly what you want in a kimchi cabbage - something that transforms beautifully during fermentation but doesn't turn to mush. The fact that you used your entire harvest for one big kimchi batch shows just how productive and rewarding this variety can be.

Your experience will be so encouraging for other home growers who want to try their hand at growing their own kimchi cabbage! One Kilo Slow Bolt really delivers on all fronts - resilience, flavor, and that perfect texture that makes homemade fermented foods so worthwhile.

    Keep on growing 🌻️

    Sweet giants

These are the only Napa cabbage I grow. They are slow to bolt, and they get huge. When all the other Napa that I’ve tried have bolted or made small, loose heads, this one has consistently made tight, huge, sweet heads. Great for making kimchi or in stir fry’s, or just in a salad.

On the recommendation of a local friend (SE TX, Zone 9) I bought these from a local nursery. They germinated quickly & grew well. My only problem was I started them about 6 weeks late. But they grew into massive plants & I had to harvest due to early hot weather. So the heading process didn't really happen. Last year (2024) they did make a head but the snails & loopers got them. Still. We made some good kimchi out of them. Sorry I couldn't include pics of the plants as I most have deleted. But with 2 years of success (in spite of user error), this is definitely a great selection.

This is the first time I have grown this Napa Cabbage. Planted seeds Sept 3 in the Atlanta area and as the package said, I am harvesting BIG cabbages about 50 days later. I am searching for stuffed cabbage recipes as I need to use what I don't end up sharing with neighbors. Will definitely grow this seed again in the spring.
