Scarlet Flax Heirloom Seeds

Linum grandiflorum

Scarlet flax is a show-off in the garden. Each brilliant red flower lasts just a day, but in profusion, they set the garden ablaze with intense color. Easy-to-grow, low maintenance plants attract pollinators and tolerate hot and dry conditions. Allow plants to go to seed, and you'll be rewarded with months and years of color. This is an ornamental flax and not intended for consumption.

Planted a 6'x8' area with all red flax in full sun. Had to re-sow a couple times because the birds ate some of the seeds. They are hardy, low maintenance plants once they're growing, but I'm pretty underwhelmed with their flowers. The blooms are very sparse. Was hoping for much more color.

Wow! Heads turn every year these silky, vivid flowers emerge. I've planted these just once, along the 'hot strip' alongside the hot, dry driveway, and they've self-seeded ever since with minimal irrigation. Attractive to pollinators and curious hummingbirds, these tolerant flowers reliably return year after year with minimal, even no, care.

I started these at home in biodegradable small pots. Then, I transplanted them outside in October. it took a while for the mature plant to come up to the full height (approx 2 ft), but once they got going, beautiful, tender smaller flowers started blooming in March and looks like they'll be blooming for a while. Definitely we'll grow them again

I planted these with the American Legion poppies. Both germinated well. While the poppies bloomed profusely, the flax provided about 3 total blooms from numerous plants. I won't waste space on these again.
