Anise Hyssop Seeds

Agastache foeniculum

Also known as agastache, lavender hyssop, and licorice mint, this heirloom is loved by hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. With a minty, anise/licorice flavor, it is as useful in the kitchen as it is beautiful. The leaves and flowers make a refreshing, fruity tea, and can be added to salads. The lavender-blue flower spikes are lovely in fresh floral arrangements or dried bouquets. Perennial in USDA zones 4-8. Fairly drought tolerant once established.

    Moderate germination time

I used germination sponges followed by cow pots. I also used a heating mat and grow lights. Really good success rate

    Good germination

Did both a winter sow and traditional indoor sow after cold stratification and had good germination with both. Seedlings are looking happy. Picture of winter sown jug in April zone 7b.

    Hey Rebecca,

We're so happy to hear you had great germination with both your winter sowing and indoor cold stratification methods! It's awesome that you experimented with different techniques and got fantastic results with both! Your seedlings look so healthy and happy in that photo. You're going to absolutely love these plants when they mature - anise hyssop produces such beautiful purple flower spikes that pollinators go crazy for, plus those leaves have the most amazing licorice-mint fragrance! Thanks for sharing your growing experience and that great photo from your zone 7b garden! Keep on growing 🌻️

    Poor germination

Sprinkled out the whole packet and got one seedling. I've grown this every year and while it can be hard to get it to germinate in my climate, I've never had such poor results.

    Hey Tiffany,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We’ve reached out via email to help. Quality is very important to us, and all of our seeds are regularly third-party tested to ensure strong germination rates. In many cases, germination issues are related to environmental factors like moisture, temperature, or planting depth. We appreciate your feedback and support — keep on growing 🌻
