Seed Depth Surface to ⅛"
Seed Spacing Broadcast about ½" apart
Thinning Not required for baby greens
Germination 5–14 days
Start Indoors Transplanting is not recommended, although mesclun can be grown indoors on a sunny windowsill or under grow lights.
Direct Sow RECOMMENDED. 2 to 4 weeks before your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is at least 40°F, ideally 60°–70°F. Successive Sowings: Every 3 weeks until 2 weeks before your average first fall frost date. Mild Climates: Sow in fall and winter for cool season harvests.
Growing & Harvesting Harvest leaves with scissors 2" above the soil surface. Mesclun will regrow and provide 2–3 harvests, although the first harvest is usually the best. If you wish to harvest mature heads, cut off at 2" above ground level as soon as possible after head forms; new leaves will grow form the center. The earlier the harvest, the more tender the crop.

    Best stand of lettuce ever

I was running behind this season and hadn’t gotten all of my cool-season crops planted before an unexpected stretch of extremely hot weather hit our Zone 7 area. Since I had hoped to do a fall planting as well, I decided to hold off on sowing these seeds.

Then, as crazy weather would have it, March brought several weeks of unusually cool temperatures. I finally decided to simply scatter the seeds into a raised bed. Holy moly! After some watering and an abundance of rain, this mix took off like a rocket.

I’m still harvesting large amounts on June 8, 2026, even with temperatures reaching the upper 80s. My one trick was using a 40% shade cloth during the hottest periods, which seemed to help tremendously. We’ve recently had plenty of rain and cloudy weather, so I’ve removed it for now.

I am extremely impressed with this mix and will definitely be planting it again for a fall crop. Thanks for a great product!

    Good lettuce mix

Nice mix of lettuces, with some greens and some reds. Excellent germination. I much prefer to grow my own lettuce than pay the big bucks for organic lettuce from the store!

The germination rate is fantastic- to a fault (of my own)

so, I have to say, I have the funniest way to explain just how high the germination rate seems to be. I'm kicking myself now that I didn't take many photos, but here goes. I tried to plant quite a few seeds in one of my large tomato containers I have outside, hoping the tomato would help keep it shaded as the weather started to cool down.

It was just way too hot for several more weeks and nothing grew, though the backup I planted in a pot in a sunny window was thriving. Even there, I planted too many.

But the funny part comes when i explain how i usually have emergency backup soil when i can't buy any- i simply scoop some from the very large, very full tomato pot. I have two of those containers, but the other is chock full of bugs, so I avoid taking from it. I guess I wasn't thinking when I potted up my six inch pot and a few cacti, having been weeks since I sewed the lettuce and a very foggy brain.

There is lettuce absolutely everywhere. 5 sprouts in my six inch variety seedling pot, (i guess i needed more variety lol), there were two in my miniature cactus pot, not a window in my house was not chock full of surprise lettuce, and I have felt like I'm losing my mind as there seems to be a new sprout every day just as I've culled two- cut off one head, I guess? 😂

But most confusing of all, a pot with soil I did not reuse and had planted before the seeds came in- had a lettuce sprout. It was several feet away the last time I (intentionally) planted any lettuce, but is…
