French Filet Bush Bean Seeds

Phaseolus vulgaris

These delicate 'French Filet' beans are no longer a luxury item found only in gourmet restaurants. Enjoy them fresh from your garden all summer long. Filet (or as the French say, haricot verts) are slender beans; pencil-thin at only ¼" in diameter and 4" long, and so tender. Steam or sauté for just a minute and enjoy. Easy and delicious.

Coverage & Planting Details

Coverage This packet sows up to 27 feet.
Row Spacing 24"
Seed Depth 1"
Seed Spacing 1 seed every 4"
Thinning Not required
Germination 6–12 days
Start Indoors Not recommended; bean seedlings are sensitive to root disturbance.
Direct Sow RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is at least 65°F, ideally 70°–85°F. Successive Sowings: Every 7 to 14 days up to 80 days before your average first fall frost date. NOTE: In very hot summer areas, skip sowing as high heat approaches; temperatures consistently above 90°F will prevent beans from forming.
Growing & Harvesting Snap beans are ready to pick when the pod "snaps" or breaks in half cleanly. This is when the seeds have just begun to form and the pods are several inches long (depending on the variety). Hold the stem with one hand, and the pod with the other hand to avoid pulling off branches, which will continue to produce. At season's end, plants are great compost material if they are disease-free.

    Prolific production bean

As a second crop (in Missouri), I planted the seeds in approximately late July. Although we were in a drought, I was able to water the young plants a few times. Rain then came, along with a week of high temperatures. They quickly blossomed. I've now had a second huge picking. There are many, many blossoms still setting beans. I imagine they'll continue on producing until a heavy freeze does them in. The bean itself is of great quality!! This is one bean seed that will have a permanent place in my collection of outstanding seeds.

    Hey Roberta R.,

What a fantastic review! We're absolutely thrilled to hear that your French Filet Bush Bean Seeds delivered such prolific production as a second crop - that's exactly what makes this variety so special for extending the growing season!

Your late July planting experience in Missouri really highlights how resilient and adaptable these beans are! The fact that they powered through drought conditions, then responded so beautifully to the rain and high temperatures shows what tough performers French Filet beans really are. It's so satisfying when you find a variety that can handle whatever Mother Nature throws at it and still deliver incredible results.

We love hearing about your "second huge picking" with many more blossoms still setting beans - that's the kind of continuous production that makes French Filet beans such fantastic workhorses in the garden! There's something so rewarding about having a steady supply of fresh, high-quality beans stretching well into the fall. The fact that you expect them to keep producing right up until a heavy freeze really speaks to their incredible staying power.

Your comment about the bean quality being great is music to our ears! French Filet beans are bred for that perfect tender texture and excellent flavor that makes them so worthwhile to grow, and it sounds like yours are delivering exactly what they should.

We're so honored that these beans have earned a permanent place in your collection of outstanding seeds - that's the highest praise possible from an experienced gardener like yourself!

Your success with this second crop will be so encouraging for other growers who want to maximize their harvest season!

    Keep on growing 🌻️
