Honesty Money Plant Seeds

Lunaria annua

Popular in winter arrangements, Money Plant was introduced to England from Germany in the late 1500s and brought to America by the Puritans. Also called honesty, silver dollar, satinflower, penny flower, Judas' penny, and moonwort. Plant in mass in beds, borders, or along the edge of shrubbery where shining pods can catch the sunlight. As a biennial sowed in spring, it will produce flowers/silvery seed pods the following year.

Update! This bad boy or girl is over 4feet! I am 5’5” and it’s at my eye level! The pods have started forming, following the soft purple with white variegation. And it must be more than 2’ wide. I have it in a part sun location and it’s just glorious. There are multiple babies popping up all around. Fun to watch the transformation!

Planted a few honesty a couple years ago. A few plants bloomed somewhat straggly.. but they were in more shade than they like. Still got those beautiful shimmering discs though which I collected the seed from again. This one pictured is in its second year and huge compared to the first bloomers! I couldn’t even figure out what it was until it started blooming. Excited to see how majestically the pods form on this beaut!

I ordered these seeds years ago! Being that I live in Florida, they're not zoned for this type of flower.but I did an experiment with the seeds,I kept feeding it ice cubes! They loved it and I was able to grow them! Beautifully!!!I've tried other seeds, they're not doing anything.!

Kudos to you, with the ice cubes; and congratulations, but my results with the Honesty Money Plant were not as successful here on the Gulf Coast of Florida, even in partial shade (perhaps our garden is south-er Florida than yours). These just couldn't survive our Zone 9, Central Florida HEAT, fungi, and root knot nematodes once the more tropical steamy weather of our summer rainy season got into full swing. (Not Botanical Interests fault: the seeds had excellent germination, and the plants grew well during the cool spring...they just couldn't handle the heat, fungus, nematodes, and torrential rains of our central Florida summer.
