Jewel Amethyst Eggplant Seeds

Solanum melongena

Jewel Amethyst' is perfect for containers, with a tidy habit that makes harvesting a breeze. Glossy, oval, purple fruits are best harvested when about 3''–4 ½" long. Harvest regularly from this prolific plant and keep eggplant on the table throughout the season. Its firm texture and mild flavor make this mini eggplant ideal for roasting, frying, or glazing with a flavorful sauce. See inside of packet for our Gochujang Glazed Eggplant recipe!

Seed Spacing Start Indoors
Thinning Start indoors; plant 18" apart outside
Germination 10 – 20 days
Start Indoors RECOMMENDED. 10 to 12 weeks before your average last frost date. Transplant outdoors 1 to 2 weeks after last frost, when soil temperature is at least 60°F, and outside night air temperature is above 60°F.
Direct Sow 2 to 4 weeks after your average last frost date, when soil temperature is at least 70°F, ideally 80°‒90°F, and when outside night air temperature is above 60°F.
Special Care In areas where cool soil is a concern, growing eggplant in dark-colored containers or using black plastic mulch will warms the soil. The best method of watering when using plastic mulch is drip irrigation, or a soaker hose underneath the plastic.
Growing & Harvesting Jewel Amethyst' should be harvested when the fruit is 3"–4 ½" long and the skin is still shiny. If you are in doubt about maturity level, note that it’s better to harvest eggplants a little young rather than wait until they are overly mature with dull skin, eventually possibly turning a golden color, with plentiful seeds, and bitter taste. To harvest, cut the stem with pruners. Continual harvest will encourage more production.

    Unstable Genetics

The packet says to sow these very early indoors, but they grow quickly and you could easily wait another month or more to start them. The fruits on both of my plants are white and not amethyst. Great compact plant, but some improvements are needed.

    Hey Danielle,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your detailed experience with the Jewel Amethyst Eggplant Seeds - this kind of specific feedback is incredibly helpful for us and fellow gardeners!

You make an excellent point about the sowing timing, and I really appreciate that practical tip about waiting an extra month to start them. That's the kind of real-world growing advice that makes such a difference for other gardeners planning their season.

I'm glad to hear the plants themselves turned out compact and healthy - that's always encouraging! As for the color variation you experienced, we definitely want to look into this further to ensure we're providing the most consistent genetics possible.

Thank you for giving them a try and for sharing both the positives and areas for improvement. Your honest feedback helps us continue to improve our seed quality. Keep on growing 🌻️

But they are not Jewel Amethyst

The plant itself is great with wonderful germination and heavy loads of fruit on a 2-3 foot plant. However the fruits are all white. Not sure what variety it is but would think Japanese Egg Eggplant.

    Hey Paige,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with the Jewel Amethyst Eggplant Seeds!

It's wonderful to hear that you had such great success with germination and that your plants are producing heavy loads of fruit on those nice compact 2-3 foot plants - that sounds like some really healthy, productive eggplants!

I'm definitely concerned to hear that the fruits are coming out white instead of the beautiful purple amethyst color you were expecting. That's not the variety experience we want for you at all, and I really appreciate you letting us know about this mix-up.

I've reached out to you via email so we can make this right and get you the proper Jewel Amethyst seeds you ordered. Your feedback helps us ensure quality for all our fellow gardeners.

Thank you for that generous 4-star rating despite the variety issue, and for sharing your growing success! Keep on growing 🌻️

    Is this a seed mix-up?

Whatever it is, it is very productive, germinated well and is beautiful. Any idea what it is or is it Jewel Amethyst?

I didn’t purchase mini white eggplant seeds :(

I purchased the Jewel Amethyst eggplant seeds and to my surprise….the eggplants came out WHITE! I was very disappointed because I had my heart set on these beautiful mini eggplants being purple. I left them on the plant thinking they would turn purple but instead they turned yellow!!!! Can I get another pack of seeds please?
