Coverage & Planting Details

Coverage This packet sows up to 6 feet of trellised cucumbers.
Seed Depth ½"
Seed Spacing A group of 2 seeds every 12"
Thinning When 3 leaves, thin to 1 plant every 12"
Germination 5–10 days
Start Indoors 2 to 4 weeks before average last frost. Cucumbers are sensitive to root disturbance; sow in biodegradable pots.
Direct Sow RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is at least 60°F, ideally 70°–90°F.
Growing & Harvesting Pick, and pick some more! Overly mature cucumbers on the vine will slow production of new cucumbers. Cut the stem rather than pulling at the fruit, as stems are fragile. To increase the quality and storage time, once picked, immediately immerse in cold water to disperse "field heat".

    Wow

Get ready for a lot of cucumbers! I live in Central Florida zone 10 A and the first time I planted one of the seeds it was in mid August and it did so well! It is now April the next year and I used one seed last month and it is growing well. Last summer, the plant yielded so many cucumbers I was astonished. I was giving my coworkers many & they were ginormous. I had so many!! I look forward to many cucumbers this spring! Thanks Kevin!

    Tasty Green growing slowly

This is the second batch of Tasty Green Cucumber seeds that I have planted. Last year, the first batch grew very quickly up a trellis and started producing fruit in about 75 days. The cucumbers were juicy, delicious and no bitterness. This year the second batch is about 60 days old and is only about 8 inches high. The Blue Lake pole beans that I planted at the same time in the same raised bed, same soil mix, same hours of sunlight, same watering schedule, etc., have climbed to the top of their trellis, have doubled back and forth across the top of the trellis, and are producing beans in about 60 days as advertised. In short, the growing conditions seem relatively ideal, so I think that Tasty Green Cucumbers vines should at least be a few feet up their trellis if not all the way to the top.

    Hey David,

Thank you so much for the 3-star review and for sharing your detailed comparison between this year's Tasty Green Cucumbers and last year's success! We're glad to hear that your first batch delivered exactly what you were hoping for - those juicy, delicious cucumbers with no bitterness climbing up that trellis and producing in 75 days sounds like a perfect cucumber harvest!

We totally understand your frustration with this year's slower growth, especially when you've got those Blue Lake pole beans absolutely thriving in the exact same conditions and performing right on schedule. It's so puzzling when you know you've got the growing environment dialed in perfectly, but one crop is taking off while another is lagging behind.

Cucumber growth can sometimes be affected by subtle factors like soil temperature differences from year to year, even slight variations in weather patterns, or sometimes just seed-to-seed variation within the variety. Since your Tasty Greens were such strong performers last season in the same setup, it really does point to this just being one of those gardening mysteries where timing and conditions don't align quite the same way.

The good news is that at 60 days and 8 inches, they're still in the game - cucumbers can sometimes have slower starts and then really take off once they hit their stride, especially if soil temperatures warm up a bit more.

Your side-by-side comparison with the beans is really helpful for other gardeners who might experience similar timing variations with their cucumber crops!

    My first delicious success!

100% germination rate. Did well in partial shade (80-90 degree afternoon sun with dappled shade). Hit maturity in the exact amount of time listed. They took off once I transplanted the seedlings and grew so healthy - my only plant that didn't succumb to pests or mold. The cucumbers are delicious. I had some pollination issues but that's on me. Fruit still plumped up and I could not be happier. I've struggled with getting the right conditions for my seedlings to take hold after transplant but this guy made me proud and I will definitely plant again. I also did not thin my seedlings (started 2 per cell), and that was not a problem. I couldn't bare to thin when there were only 10 seeds in the pack and everything germinated lol. Now I know I can confidently plant 1 seed per cell next time. (TBH I don't understand the need to multisow when you're starting in seed trays lol). The healthy vines were beautiful on the trellis (I recommend a tall one because my vines grew to 6+ feet) These are strong seeds - Highly recommend!

    Hey Merideth,

Thank you so much for this fantastic 5-star review! "My first delicious success!" is exactly what we love to hear about Tasty Green Cucumber Seeds - and wow, what an incredible success story from 100% germination all the way to those delicious homegrown cucumbers!

We absolutely love that these seeds gave you that confidence-building experience you needed! There's something so special about finding that one plant that just thrives and makes you feel like a gardening superstar, especially when you've been struggling with getting other seedlings to take hold. The fact that your Tasty Greens were your only plants to resist pests and mold just shows what strong, resilient performers these cucumber seeds really are.

Your experience with partial shade growing is so valuable for other gardeners! It's amazing that they handled those 80-90 degree afternoons with dappled shade and still delivered such healthy, productive vines. And those 6+ foot vines on your trellis must have been absolutely gorgeous - there's something so satisfying about watching cucumber vines climb and flourish like that!

We totally get your logic about not wanting to thin when you had perfect germination from all 10 seeds - that's actually brilliant problem-solving, and it's so helpful for other gardeners to know that Tasty Greens can handle that kind of close spacing without issues. Your confidence to plant one seed per cell next time is exactly the kind of growing wisdom that comes from hands-on success!

Your amazing first-time cucumber growing experience will be so inspiring for other gardeners who want to discover just how rewarding and reliable Tasty Green Cucumber Seeds can be!

    Keep on growing 🌻️
