Utah Celery Seeds

Apium graveolens

Imagine slicing that first, big, beautiful bunch of celery from the earth in your garden. You can harvest individual stalks when just 6" tall or wait for the bunch to mature. Celery grows best in climates with long, mild-temperature seasons, but with a few helpful tips, it can be grown almost anywhere.

Coverage & Planting Details

Coverage This packet sows up to 93 feet.
Row Spacing 24"–36"
Seed Depth Press into surface
Seed Spacing A group of 3 seeds every 6"
Thinning When 1" tall, thin to 1 every 6"
Germination 15–30 days
Start Indoors RECOMMENDED. 10 to 12 weeks before your average last frost date for spring harvest, or 10 to 12 weeks before transplanting outdoors for fall crop. Biodegradable pots minimize root disturbance at transplanting. Optimal soil temperature for germination is 70°–75°F.
Direct Sow Recommended for mild climates only. 1 to 2 weeks before your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is at least 50°F, or in fall for cool–season harvest.
Growing & Harvesting Harvest outer stalks when they are at least 6" tall or harvest entire bunch when stalks have reached 10"-12". Cut with a sharp knife at the base. Harvest in the morning. Dunk celery in ice water and drain before storing to reduce field heat. If celery is bitter, refrigeration for 2 to 3 days will reduce bitterness.

    looking good

I have never grown celery before, it's much easier to grow then I thought it would be. Just have to keep the soil moist. I planted one whole 6 X 3 raised bed and it all came up. Yes I planted the whole package. It really is so nice and green, can't wait to munch on the first harvest stalk.

It’s probably me and not the seeds, but I don’t know for certain. I got around 90% germination, but it’s looking like 40-50% yield.
